Making policies and markets benefit forest communities: participatory forest management in Ethiopia

Speaker: Dr Mulugeta Lemenih, Regional Head of Forestry and Natural Resources Management, Farm Africa

Dr Mulugeta Lemenih, Farm Africa’s Head of Forestry and Natural Resource Management, will discuss how participatory forest management could transform the lives of forest-dependent communities in Ethiopia. He will focus on:

• payments for carbon stocks under the REDD+ scheme
• business development
• trading in timber and non-timber forest products such as wild coffee, honey and frankincense

Dr Mulugeta Lemenih has extensive expertise in NRM including forest development; Participatory Forest Management; carbon forestry (REDD+ project design, feasibility analysis, safeguards and MRV); payment for ecosystem services and watershed/soil management. He is responsible for guiding and implementing forestry projects and advising Farm Africa more broadly on NRM related development.
