Speaker: Dr Jos Barlow, Senior Lecturer, Lancaster Environment Centre and visiting researcher at the Goeldi Museum, Belém, Brazil

This talk will first examine why wildfires are fundamental to our understanding of tropical forest biodiversity and carbon stocks. It will then assess how to reduce wildfires in the future, focussing on changes in the management of ignition sources from agriculture and assessing the potential of REDD+ as a mechanism to reduce forest flammability and provide payments for avoiding wildfires.
